Embracing the Prevailing Winds

The fell's silhouette is barely visible through the snowfall. Its eery majestic form in the distance dominates the landscape with an almost threatening presence. The air sparkles with tiny light snowflakes occasionally tossed by swirling gusts of wind, forming wave-like patterns while landing on the snow's icy surface. The wind creates slow overall movement in the surroundings while blowing through the snow-covered pine trees. Emphasizing the curiously ominous weather, the sky sheds deep grey background color over the forest.

It's cold outside, and the wind blows all dreams of warmth away through the dense forest. One's fingers have become slightly numb despite wearing thick gloves. Some frost forms on the balaclava with steady breathing as one stands immovable under a big, slowly swaying pine tree, watching how the morning unfolds into a new day. The weather is far from pleasant. Somehow, nature produces a magnificently suspenseful feeling, as if something is about to happen, yet it's impossible to know what exactly.

One can experience all sorts of weather during the curious happening called life. Some weather conditions create an overall atmosphere of warmth and light, while others present intense cold and deep darkness. Some days present numbness, frost, suffering and pain, and others bestow happiness and pleasure. The human mind strives for those good days while trying to avoid and escape from the bad ones. That's natural, and one does well to appreciate and accept the inherent pull toward happiness. However, that's not ultimately important.

It's essential to recognize and embrace the underlying stillness during the inevitable, prevailing weather conditions. External happenings cannot produce this stillness; instead, it's an expression of one's inner state of being. As one aligns oneself with the flow of various days, inner stillness has space to unfold and become a reality. It's not an act of doing but a total surrender. The foundation for inner stillness lies in welcoming all the weather conditions, both pleasant and dreadful, with an open heart and unwavering acceptance.

Anchoring oneself in the stillness within obliterates the need to run away from the bad days, and removes the yearning to cling and grasp the good ones. It's not wrong to suffer in days of suffering and bloom in days of blossoming—embracing the shifting human nature without resistance is deeply fulfilling. The moment without resistance marks the birth and beginning of a full-fledged human being.

During the short contemplation of weather conditions, the windy snowfall has shifted to peacefully hovering snowflakes. The wind has settled down. The air is quickly clearing up. One feels intense tingling in the fingers, a sign of warm blood flowing through the extremities. The fell's distant silhouette is now visible, and its eery and threatening impression has somehow become a portrait of a peaceful presence. One is calmly assured that no weather will last forever, and all days will eventually shift to the next one.
